Career Agent PTY (LTD) (“Career Agent”, “we”, “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information lawfully and transparently in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (“POPIA”) and other applicable South African laws. This policy explains what we collect, why, how we use it, who we share it with, and how you can exercise your rights.

2. Personal Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly and information collected automatically when you use the App.

  • Account & Identity: full name, email, phone number, profile photo.
  • CV & Documents: uploaded CVs, cover letters, certificates, or other supporting documents.
  • Career Data: skill assessments, job application history, recruiter/employer contacts.
  • Usage & Technical: IP address, device identifiers, App interaction logs.

3. Purposes of Processing

We process personal information to:

  • Provide, operate and maintain the App and its features (job matching, applications, CV revamp, skills checks).
  • Send your CV to recruiters and employers where you have authorised us to do so.
  • Provide CV consultant services when you request them.
  • Improve the App (analytics, product development) and personalise content and recommendations.
  • Communicate with you (service notifications, security alerts, support and marketing where you consent).
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from authorities.

4. Lawful Basis & Consent

Our lawful bases for processing include: your consent; performance of the service contract between you and us; compliance with legal obligations; and legitimate interests (balanced against your rights). We will request explicit consent where required (for example, sending your CV to a third party or sharing with consultants).

5. Sharing & Disclosures

We share personal information only as necessary:

  • With employers and recruiters to whom your CV is submitted.
  • With CV consultants you engage through the App (only on consent).
  • With service providers (hosting, email, analytics) subject to strict contracts and security requirements.
  • With law enforcement or regulators when required by law.

We do not sell your personal information. Any transfer outside South Africa will only occur with appropriate safeguards.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal information as long as necessary to provide the services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. If you request deletion we will remove your data subject to any legal/operational constraints (for example, records required for tax or compliance purposes).

7. Your Rights under POPIA

  • Right of access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to request correction or deletion of inaccurate or unnecessary data.
  • Right to object or restrict processing where applicable.
  • Right to withdraw consent at any time (does not affect processing already lawfully carried out).
  • Right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator in South Africa.

8. Security Measures

We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures such as encryption, role-based access control, logging, vulnerability testing, and secure hosting to protect personal information. See our Security Policy for more detail.

9. Children & Minors

Our services are intended for adult users (18+). We do not knowingly collect or process personal information of children without parental consent. If we learn we have collected information from a child without proper consent we will promptly delete it.
